HEY, I’M JESSI

I am an artist by heart and by trade.

I am constantly looking for things that feed my artistic soul and inspire me—not only as an artist but also as a human, a mom, a wife, and a friend. But I didn’t expect to find art in the birth of my own child. And yet that's exactly what happened. Through her birth, I discovered a more subtle artistic expression: the eternal yet ephemeral experience of growing a family. Family is an art medium that I’m passionate about living as a mom and studying through my photography.

My exploration of family as art began with photographing my first newborn session.

I was currently pregnant with my second child and I was suddenly looking at this tiny baby and the miracle of her cesarean birth with new eyes. She was a masterpiece. And the strength displayed by her mama and her family as they lovingly brought her into the world touched me as I relived my own experience with giving birth.

A few months later, with a new baby in arms and toddler at my heels, I decided to make space for my trade in a big way. I had discovered something that changed my life: the power and magic in photographing families.

I am in the business of meaningful family connection.

There is a power in capturing real family connection. For the first time in my career as a photographer, the people in my frame had an eternally binding relationship to each other and whole lives were captured in seemingly small expressions.

My photos became infused with stories. Your stories.

My artistic soul is now fed daily. I am obsessed with the real, the imperfect, the depth, and the complexity of family. These relationships are noble and human and the most beautiful part of life. This is family as art.

Connection matters. Relationships matter. Parenthood matters.

The purest beauty in life is found in the smallest people. Even, and especially, unborn people.

Every soul has immense worth.

The spark of life is God-given. So is Heart and Courage and Love.

  • I love to create work that is emotive, real, full of life, and deep in connection. I am a Lifestyle Photographer, with a sprinkling of the traditional and documentary, allowing me to capture unique moments with your loved ones that will be treasured for generations.

    Sessions with me are a time to unwind. To breathe each other in a little deeper. To acknowledge the occasional messy and hard times and see them with more grace. To remember why you love being a family. You’ll feel taken care of, and how much I really respect your efforts.

  • Outdoor family photo sessions take place in the greater Ann Arbor area. I photograph with 100% natural light and have scouted out locations with gorgeous light, landscape, and a variety of elements for us to explore. Take a look at my LOCATION GUIDE to start thinking about the type of location you would like. If you have a location to suggest, let's chat! I'm always up for a new adventure :)

    Newborn sessions take place in your own home.

  • Let's aim for the sweet spot in your pregnancy - usually between 30-35 weeks. Your bump is just begging to be photographed at this point, but you're still a few weeks away from delivering (at least!), so you're not too uncomfortable. This window can be different for everyone though, so listen to your body and remember how past pregnancies have developed if this isn't your first. I want you to feel as comfortable as possible!

  • I love photographing newborns within the first month. Newborns grow so quickly, even day-to-day, and it's a wonderful thing to capture those special and brief early stages. My style allows for so much variation however, and I'm flexible according to your needs and desires! If mom needs more recovery time after giving birth, absolutely take it.

    I really encourage you to book your newborn session well before your due date. A great option is use your due date as a holder for your session, and then we can adjust after your baby is born. Booking your newborn session ahead of time means you are free to spend your precious mental energy elsewhere! You'll see from my PRICING PAGE that my maternity and newborn sessions go hand-in-hand and when you schedule them together, you receive $100 off your maternity session! I absolutely love being part of your baby's story, from womb to arms.

  • Check out my CLOTHING GUIDE for wardrobe ideas! You can be yourself and remember that comfort increases confidence.

  • I am invested in your gallery of images as a whole, as I believe photos from your session work together to tell stories about your family.

    I handpick images that represent your unique connection and my artistic vision. Within 4 weeks, you’ll be emailed a link to a beautiful, private online gallery containing at least 75 (and usually a lot more) high resolution digital files from your session, prepared in both color and black and white. Images are ready to view, download, and share directly from your gallery.
